Teignbridge District Council has agreed to appoint Phil Shears as the council’s new Managing Director.
He will replace former CEO Nicola Bulbeck, who departed from her role on June 9, 2017.
Mr Shears, who’s served as Teignbridge’s Deputy Chief Executive for 11 years and has been interim Head of Paid Service since June 2017, will take on this role with immediate effect.
Mr Shears is the father of glamour model and reality TV star Jessica Shears, who lit up the screens of ITV last summer when she starred on Love Island.

His appointment follows a recommendation to Council by the Appointments and Remuneration Committee (ARC) made up of Council Leader Cllr Jeremy Christophers, Executive Portfolio Holder for Corporate Services Cllr Stuart Barker, Independent Group Leader Cllr Mike Haines and Liberal Democrat Group Leader Cllr Gordon Hook.
This new role includes the duties and responsibilities undertaken by the Head of Paid Service and will also focus on the internal delivery of the priorities set out in the Council Strategy.
The salary will be £94,656 - £105,168 – a 25 per cent reduction on the £141,972 remuneration in the 2015/16 financial year that Ms Bulbeck was paid.
