Nintendo to release two new Switch consoles this year (original) (raw)

Still enjoying your Nintendo Switch? Then we've got good news for you, as Nintendo is reportedly planning to release two new versions of the console in 2019.

The popular, portable console has given us hours of entertainment, so it's a welcome development that we could be seeing an upgrade as early as the summer, according to the Wall Street Journal.

It claims that there will be a more expensive upgrade model, which will have "enhanced features", and a cheaper version of the console for those on a budget.

We don't know what each model might be yet, but the cheaper model will supposedly have built-in vibration, meaning we could see fully attached Joy-Cons on the console, rather than detachable ones.

This would probably cut down on size and bring the Switch closer in line to a direct sequel to the Nintendo 3DS.

The more expensive model will likely have a significant performance boost on the current generation of Switch, though we have no idea what that might look like.

If we were to guess, it could mean a higher resolution screen and a more powerful processor to make it faster and more efficient, but there is no news as to what it could be.

You should expect to hear some news about the new Switch consoles during this year's E3 conference, where we'll almost certainly see some new games alongside the new hardware.

This is happy news for bargain hunters, as it will likely drop the price of the current Switch, meaning you could pick one up if you've been keen to get one but couldn't justify the price.

The Switch without any games currently goes for the same price across most retailers in both colours, so who you buy from is mostly down to personal preference.

For example, you can get the Switch from Amazon with Fortnite included right now for £267. Or upgrade to include a game like Super Mario Odyssey for £299.

You can also buy direct from the Nintendo Store and get the switch for £279.99.
