Netflix fans have a new obsession in the form of a four-part erotic thriller where one man's infatuation leads to a devastating tragedy – and an unforgettable scene that may leave you looking at staircase railings with sweaty palms.
Obsession sees high-flying surgeon William (Richard Armitage) meet and become instantly hooked on his son's new girlfriend Anna (Charlie Murphy). The pair's clandestine affair unfolds as Anna's relationship with William's son Jay (Rish Shah) blossoms into a marriage proposal.
But the night before the happy couple are set to tie the knot, the truth – and poor Jay – tumble out in a horror scene. But when you stalk your son and his girlfriend/your lover to Paris for their romantic weekend away, what else were you expecting but to be caught red-handed?
Perhaps William did expect it, given that in the final episode, he makes what could be the most shocking admission of all: that he didn't regret any of what had happened between him and Anna.

After the show's ambiguous final scene, there is every possibility the creators may line up this short and sharp series for a second season. Could William and Anna reunite? Or will we see the consequences of their affair after the truth of it came out?
Based on Josephine Hart's Damage, the show follows the novella fairly closely, but this does not obstruct the show creators from jumping off the source material to tell the story beyond its pages, particularly given how open-ended the four-part series is left.

Netflix has yet to confirm whether there will be a second instalment of Obsession, as it typically waits to see how a new series goes down with its subscribers.
The streaming giant typically announces a renewal within a couple of months of its release on the platform. The first season dropped on April 13, so it may be a little while before we know its fate.
Richard Armitage joked a second season could be a "song and dance version" of the show as he described his take on the "interesting" ending of the series.
He told Digital Spy: "I often have a resolution with the character that I'm playing that I was not able to fathom, when he says that he would do it all again, despite what's happened."
He noted that Anna's character's ending is "equally ambiguous" to his own, as Happy Valley actress Charlie Murphy said of that final therapy scene: "You can see her having a growth spurt, but at that very last millisecond, you don't if she's going to revert to that MO or what. You don't know if it's a departure."
Obsession is available to stream on Netflix.
