Doctor Who's Jonathan Groff teases return of Rogue (original) (raw)

Doctor Who spoilers follow for the latest episode, 'Rogue'.

Glee and Looking star Jonathan Groff has teased the possible return of his Doctor Who character, the time-travelling bounty hunter Rogue.

The morally-dubious character met The Doctor and Ruby Sunday in last week's Regency-era romp, and he immediately hit it off with the Time Lord – with the characters flirting and eventually sharing a kiss, before Rogue was teleported away to who knows where or when.

Just before Rogue disappeared having sacrificed himself to save Ruby Sunday, he asked The Doctor to find him, setting up a potential comeback story.

On the latest episode of companion show Doctor Who Unleashed, Groff didn't say whether there were concrete plans for him to return, but he is definitely up for more adventures as Rogue.

"I hope we're seeing Rogue again," he said in the episode. "Rogue tells the Doctor at the end of the episode to find him, so it's totally up to the Doctor. The ball is in his court, so to speak!"

He added that his portrayal of Rogue led him to be "thinking a lot about Han Solo from Star Wars".

Groff also stated that his favourite scene that he filmed was the one-on-one dance with Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor, explaining that he loved how the choreography really explored the characters' connection.

"The choreography was very much about the connection forming and vibing between the two characters," he said.

"There's a moment in the dance where the lights go out, and it's a spotlight on the two of us dancing... there was no-one else in the room but Ncuti.

"It was really transformational, and took me to a completely different place with him. Like we were in the stars together dancing."

Now that 'Rogue' has aired, the current season of Who only has two episodes left: a two-part finale that promises to reveal the truth behind the mysteries surrounding The Doctor's companion Ruby.

Doctor Who debuts new episodes at midnight on Saturday, airing on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Classic episodes of Doctor Who are available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
