Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 2 – Everything you need to know (original) (raw)

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin spoilers follow.

Got a secret – can you keep it? We're pretty obsessed with Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.

After a couple of spin-offs of the beloved series didn't get off the ground (RIP 2014's Ravenswood and 2021's The Perfectionists), this slasher-loving and reference-filled show seems to be having a little more luck.

But has it been enough to continue beyond its first outing? There was definitely potential for more, especially as it doesn't just tie to the original, but also attaches it to the Archie-verse at large. (Specifically Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.)

So what's the situation there?

Here's everything you need to know about the spin-off's future, not least its new title: Pretty Little Liars: Summer School. Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacas revealed the change in an insta post, which showed an '80s slasher-style poster featuring a Beasley twin choking on a cheerleader megaphone.

In September 2022, HBO Max confirmed it would be continuing the thrill kills with a second season.

Writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa later wrote on Instagram: "It's official!!! Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is returning for SEASON TWO! Get ready for MORE lying, MORE secrets, and MORE SLASHING!!!!

"So indebted to the folks who helped make this show under nearly impossible conditions—especially our five fearless final girls and the rest of our spectacular cast—and so grateful to the fans who have embraced it! As Tabby would say, 'Looks like there's a sequel in the offing…'"

The show's co-creator Lindsay Bring responded to the message: "Alright, Robertooo!!! Time to brush up on our favorite horror sequels !!! NO ONE i'd rather do this with. Grateful to you and our partnership! And of course our PLLS!!! May the mayhem continue!!"

However, it's still not known when the season will be dropping, with the indication being that season two hasn't gone into production just yet.

The series ended in a kind of finite way, with very few strings left hanging to be tied up. But saying that, with an entire connected universe to expand into as well as a devout fanbase, there's every excuse to keep the party going.

Or murders, as the case may be.

We'll let you know if and when we hear any more!

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 2 Summer School cast: Who will be in it?

chandler kinney, malia pyles, zaria, bailee madison, maia reficco, pretty little liars original sin

HBO

This cast of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 2 will depend largely on how the writers team decide to take the show. On the one hand, they can return to Millwood and catch up with our new liars, with something new coming their way.

If this is the case, then expect the following stars to return:

• Bailee Madison (Imogen)
• Zaria (Faran Bryant)
• Chandler Kinney (Tabby)
• Malia Pyles (Mouse)
• Maia Reficco (Noa)
• Mallory Bechtel (Kelly)

But in this version of the show, the leading teens' fates have been formed by that of their mothers, who committed heinous acts of bullying as teenagers. Acts so bad it resulted in one girl taking her own life.

Honestly, they're not that great these days either, if you ask us. BUT they'll be integral going forward as more secrets come out.

These adult liars are:

• Sharon Leal (Sidney)
• Elena Goode (Marjorie)
• Lea Salonga (Elodie)
• Zakiya Young (Corey)
• Jennifer Ferrin (Martha)

But another route the show can go is following in the footsteps of American Horror Story, considering the plot is so wrapped up. If that happens (though we doubt it a bit) then expect an entire new slate of stars.

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 2 Summer School plot: What will happen?

The name change announcement accompanied by the charmingly gruesome illustration of one of the Beasley twins choking on a cheerleading megaphone hints at a time jump.

When last we left the gang they were in the thick of Christmas celebrations. The title-rejig suggests that we will pick up with them in the summer which implies we could be looking at a jump of at least six months.

Apart from that, there’s not much left to deduce from the finale. Like we just said, there was very little left open to interpretation at the end of season one, with most things tied up nicely and ready for the Liars to move forward with their lives.

But then again… it's Millwood, so who knows what lies around the corner.

Mute killer Archie (not to be confused with Riverdale's Archie) broke free from the hospital and is now on the loose – only without his father Principal Clanton there to pull his strings and point him in one killer direction or another.

However, this Archie is a bit of a tragic figure, forced to hide away from a young age as he "had a face only a mother could love"... seriously what is it with the parents in this town?!

He did, however, have a big protective streak over sister Angela, who as a teenager died by suicide after being raped by the now-Sheriff Beasley. In an extra bitter twist, she was cast out from her friendship group (the mothers) as a result, because they didn't want to believe Beasley, who was dating Madison's mum at the time, was a rapist.

In the final moments of season one, it seems Archie's decided to use his killer instinct to go after rapist men in the town, first attacking Sheriff Beasley and stabbing him to death in his hospital bed, before making a beeline to Chip's house, who has made bail for the Christmas holiday awaiting trial for the rape of Madison and Tabby.

Could Archie actually become a vigilante and protector to the girls now he's not under the power of his cruel and vengeful father?

It seems while season one was all about the mothers, season two could have a lot more focus on the fathers of the girls. After all, they're far from innocent themselves. Kelly will have to learn to live without her abusive dad – the Sheriff – now he's dead.

Speaking to Digital Spy after the season one finale, actress Mallory Bechtel revealed her hopes for the show going forward, and explained: "What I hope would happen for Kelly, I don't know if it would, but I hope she sticks with this group of friends and I hope she stays on the right path and I hope she leans on them to deal with you know, this new trauma which is her dad dying.

"She has a very complicated relationship with him. I hope she finds some sort of passion, maybe translates her love for dance into musical theatre. I feel like Kelly will get into whatever the spring musical might be – she could sign up for that.

"I just think she sticks to the girls and I think it'd be very fun to get to do stuff with Noa and Mouse, the liars that I haven't gotten to interact with as much. I would want to see what those friendships would be like."

Meanwhile**,** Mouse is likely going to be on a mission to find her biological father. Faran's father will have feelings after it was revealed Corey put her daughter through surgery she didn’t need, and the rest of the Liars have absentee fathers at best.

But then, if they go the anthology route… all of this can be thrown out the window and who knows where they can go next!
