What Is The Grimthorpe Chase?
Run in Doncaster each year, The Grimthorpe Chase is a National Hunt steeplechase which contains 19 jump fences. The distance has varied over time, but currently sits at a little over 3 miles and 2 furlongs.
The name of the race itself comes from the Grimthorpe family, who are steeped in racing history. With the family being owners of winners of the Grand National and the Cheltenham Gold Cup, members of the Jockey Club and also a director of Thirsk Racecourse.
Currently the 5th Baron Grimthorpe, Teddy Beckett, is chairman of York Racecourse, as well as a racing manager.

Join us for Town Moor’s ultimate endurance test, as stars of National Hunt racing take on a gruelling 3 miles and 2 furlongs stamina test at Doncaster Racecourse.
The race is often seen as a Grand National trial, with many winners (such as The Last Samuri and Definitely Red) going on to boast favouritism in the Merseyside race.
