Motorola Acquires Digianswer - EDN (original) (raw)

Motorola Inc. has acquired a majority interest in Digianswer from Olicom A/S as part of efforts to bolster the chipmaker's Bluetooth and HomeRF wireless product portfolio. Digianswer will provide Motorola with its Bluetooth wireless technology and will co-develop a HomeRF offering with Motorola. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Short-range wireless standards Bluetooth and HomeRF promote quick data transfers between mobile and home electronics products, harboring the potential to exchange text files, photos, music and more without cables or wires. Motorola will embed Digianswer's Bluetooth technology into its DigitalDNA product portfolio for wireless connectivity, portable computing and home networking platforms. In addition to delivering Bluetooth functionality via Motorola consumer products, Motorola's semiconductor operation will merge Digianswer's products into its product line. Digianswer's connectivity technology will be integrated in several product lines, including cellular phones, two-way radios, accessories, broadband home networking products and automotive solutions. Digianswer A/S develops DSP-based accessories for use with cellular phones.
