Hazardous Air Pollutants | US EPA (original) (raw)

Hazardous air pollutants are those known to cause cancer and other serious health impacts. The Clean Air Act requires the EPA to regulate hazardous air pollutants, also known as air toxics, from categories of industrial facilities in two phases.

Hazardous air pollutants come from a variety of sources and have a wide range of health effects and environmental impacts.

Reducing emissions of urban air toxics has been a priority for EPA since the passage of the Clean Air Act Amendments in 1990.

EPA uses hazardous air pollutant emissions and ambient monitoring data to develop regulatory programs that limit emissions from stationary sources.
