Channel 5's The Hardacres viewers issue complaint minutes into new drama (original) (raw)

The Hardacres viewers were left unimpressed just minutes into the new Channel 5 drama as they claim the show is ‘lacking something.

The series follows the lives and fortunes of the Hardacres family in 1890's Yorkshire as dock worker Sam Hardacres and his family move from a grimy fish dock to a vast country estate.

During the first episode, things take an unfortunate turn as Sam suffers an injury on his hand and he is unable to work.

Things went from bad to worse as Sam’s wife Mary decided to visit Sam's boss in a desperate attempt to ask for an advance on his pay but she was left speechless when he demanded sexual favours in return for the favour.

The Hardacres: Episode 1, Liza Hardacre (Shannon Lavelle), Tinny the Dog, Ma (Julie Graham), Harry Hardacre (Zak Ford-Williams), Joe Hardacre (Adam Little), Horse & Carriage

The Hardacres made its debut

Mary rejected his offer and was then fired. With rent due, the family were forced to think quickly. They were left with no choice but to go out looking for work so they don’t get kicked out of their home.

Things were off to a slow start, and Mary’s idea of setting up a fried herring stall proved impossible as her son Harry was mugged at knifepoint for their earnings.

The family didn’t let that stop them as they went on to set up the stall again and the Hardacres found success again and made a hefty amount of money that they never expected to make. They went on to invest their money and started a family business which took off.

In the end, fans saw the Hardacres arriving at their new stately home, which marks the beginning of their new life. As the series goes on the family will have to navigate their newfound wealth.
