Revitalization of Urban Neighborhoods.

The purpose of this study is to encourage corporations and local government .
agencies to work together in revitalizing urban neighborhoods, by joining forces to.
accomplish this goal the financial burden would be less. The teaming together of .
corporations and local government agencies would send a message of togetherness.
The various corporations would receive tax breaks and local government agencies will set an example for other cities across the country struggling with urban decay.
The Background of the Problem.
The founders of Memphis, Tennessee chose the name in 1819, translated .
"Memphis" means "beautiful and established," the name came from a place in .
Egypt whose ruins had vanished along the Nile thousands of years before, there's .
parts of Memphis that make this city like no other city in America: barbeque, the .
blues and Graceland the home of Elvis. Memphis is also like other cities in America.

Urban decay became an issue for Memphis in the 1960's when the country and the city were at odds over civil liberties. The biggest blow to Memphis was the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this tragic event hurt the psyche and the economy of the city, after these tragedy city officials approved an urban renewal plan. Over fourteen million federal dollars were spent to revitalize a small portion of downtown Memphis.
From 1960's to the late 1970's, urban renewal in Memphis initiated eleven .
projects over 560 acres, demolishing a total of three thousands structures. In 1973.
Holiday Inn cofounder Wallace Johnson got involved in the urban renewal and launched a campaign called "Believe in Memphis". The slogan was no substitute for the people who had left the city in search of better housing.
The decay of urban neighborhoods has been an issue for cities across this .
