America has always been viewed as the country of diversity. When you think of diversity in America, you would think of all the people of different races, cultures & religions, but the one thing that also makes America diverse is the food. People from countries all over the have come to America to share their favorite recipes and give our mouths something to water about.
Before the colonization of America, Native American groups had, what would be today, a very healthy diet. Their meals consist mostly of fruits, vegetables & fish. These diets also help the Natives to remain healthy and live longer.
When the Spanish colonized Latin America, they brought along some of their foods and that were combine with the foods already at the colonies. The result was a menu of exotic fruits, vegetables & spices. Like the Natives, the Spanish's diet consists mostly of fruits, vegetables & fish. Some differences are the types and fruits and vegetables and they also had beans and rice.
During the 1500s when the Europeans nations started colonizing America, they brought over a more fatter and higher density type of food. They introduced the meat and potatoes diet. Their diets were not as healthy as the Natives or the Spanish and the American colonists were more vulnerable to diseases.
Africans also contributed to the diet of America's diet, but was not voluntarily at first. Their diet was called the "soul food" and it consisted of barbecued meat, fried chicken, sweet potatoes and chitterlings. Besides those, Africans also had pork and other farm-grown vegetables. A lot of Africans died because of their unhealthy diet.
Asia, the birthplace of spices and some of the most exotic types of food in the world. While the Japanese diet were probably one the healthiest diet in the world at that time, the same thing could not be said about China, Most of the food from China are either fried or drowned in fatty oil.
