Another Tuesday, another Wordle to solve. It remains mysteriously gorgeous outside, and I continue to find it unsettling that it’s this warm in February. I won’t belabor the point. But pray for snow, at least for us here in the southwest. We prefer it to fires.

In any case, let’s solve this Wordle!

I felt quite good about this one. Turns out CRIME does pay, and today it left me with just 7 remaining possible solutions, two yellow boxes and one green box. I rearranged the yellow boxes perfectly, but missed the Wordle by a single letter with SCARE. Perhaps ironically, the answer was SCORE.

I get 1 point for guessing in three, but -1 point for losing to the Bot, who lucked out and got this one on guess #2. Drat and tarnation!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word score comes from the Old Norse skor, meaning "notch" or "mark." It entered Middle English through Old English scoru, meaning "twenty" (likely from counting by making notches on a tally stick). Over time, score evolved to mean a recorded count, an amount (especially multiples of twenty), and later extended to meanings in music, sports, and general tallies.
