Adolphe Braun (original) (raw)
The collector is the true resident of the interior. The collector dreams his way not only into a distant or bygone world but also into a better one.
- Walter Benjamin
Adolphe Braun was a French photographer who spent most of his time in Mulhouse, in Alsace, in the neighborhood of Dornach. He is best known for his photographs of flowers, the Alps, and ethnic costumes of Switzerland. He is also one of the first photographers to photograph and widely distribute reproductions of art works, which greatly advanced the field of art history. Above, you can see some of his flower arrangement photographs, which were originally intended to educate, much like Braun's photographs of artworks.
