A prospective Denmark World Cup 2026 squad is in, as Brian Riemer has made his squad selection ahead of this month’s play-offs.

Tournament squads are shaping up: Denmark, meanwhile, are still fighting for their spot at World Cup 2026 and will take on North Macedonia on March 26 in the first of potentially two play-off matches.

If Brian Riemer’s team are victorious, they will proceed to face either Czech Republic or Republic of Ireland to secure their place at the biggest tournament in football this summer.

Denmark finished second in their World Cup qualification group behind Scotland and will now fight in the play-offs for one of just four spots at the World Cup.

Brian Riemer’s men fell agonisingly to two strikes in added time against Scotland in their final group stage game - a rocket from Kiernan Tieney in the 93rd minute followed by a halfway line strike from Kenny McLean in the 98th.

In the 2022 World Cup, Denmark finished bottom of their group with just one point, following losses to Australia and France, and a 0-0 draw against Tunisia.

The Red and Whites performed at a higher level internationally in 2025, making it to the Nations League quarter-finals under Riemer before losing 5-3 on aggregate to Portugal.

Manager

Who is Denmark's manager?

Brian Riemer is perhaps best known for his role as assistant coach to Thomas Frank at Brentford between the years of 2018 and 2022.

The pair led Brentford to promotion in the 2020/21 season, securing a return to top-flight football for the Bees - their first season back in England’s highest division since 1946.

Riemer managed Anderlecht in the 2022/23 season to an 11th-placed finish, then mounted a title charge the year after that saw the Mauves narrowly miss out on the final day.

In September 2024, he was dismissed from his position at Anderlecht, then took up the Denmark job just a month later.

As is typically the case for players leaving Manchester United, Rasmus Hojlund has found greener pastures in Italy during his loan move.

The 23-year-old has registered 10 goals and two assists for Napoli in the Serie A this season, who sit third in the league table.

The striker also contributed to six goals during the World Cup qualification games (five goals, one assist) and will prove vital to Denmark’s hopes of securing a tournament spot.
