**Thinking about the Poem
**I.
**Que 1. What kind of place is Innisfree? Think about:
- **the three things the poet wants to do when he goes back there (stanza I);
- **what he hears and sees there and its effect on him (stanza II);
- **what he hears in his “heart’s core” even when he is far away from Innisfree (stanza III).
**Answers-
**Innisfree is seen as a beautiful place where we can feel nature is in its frill swing.
- The poet wants to build a small hut of clay & wattles. He wants to plant nine rows of beans & keep a hive for the honeybees.
- He hears peace come dropping & cricket singing. He also sees the shining midnight & a purple glow at noon. The evenings are full of linnet’s wings. This makes him happy & gives him peace of mind.
- The poet in his “heart’s core” hears the low sounds of the lake water lapping the shore even when he’s far away from Innisfree.
**Que 2. By now you may have concluded that Innisfree is a simple, natural place, full of beauty and peace. How does the poet contrast it with where he now stands? ( Read stanza III )
**Answer-
The natural beauty of Innisfree is seen in contrast with the city’s roads & pavements. The grey color pavement symbolizes decay & death.
**Que 3. Do you think Innisfree is only a place or a state of mind? Does the poet actually miss the place of his boyhood days?
**Answer-
The natural beauty of Innisfree is not a creation of the poet. It is an actual place that gives solace to disturbed souls. The poet really wishes to live in this beautiful & peaceful place. He misses both the place and the peace the place used to give him.
**II.
**Que 1. Look at the words the poet uses to describe what he sees and hears at Innisfree.
- **bee-loud glade
- **evenings full of the linnet’s wings
- **lake water lapping with low sounds What pictures do these words create in your mind?

- It is an ordinary but bewitching scene. The waves strike the lake’s shore to create a sound that is pleasing & soothing.
**Que 2. Look at these words;
**… peace comes dropping slow Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings
**What do these words mean to you? What do you think **“comes dropping slow … from the veils of the morning?” What does **“to where the cricket sings” mean?

These words refer to the peace that surrounds the area at daw, which can be reached slowly and gradually. The cricket's pleasing & melodious sound greets the morning which adds sweetness to the serene place.
