Digital design refers to the****.** process of designing the interactions and experience of a digital product on any digital device, this digital device could be anything like a mobile phone, a desktop, a tablet, a smartwatch, etc. Your design is responsible for communicating your mission and your product to your users, it becomes much more important when dealing with multiple digital devices, Digital design is largely responsible for user retention, and user experience and may decide the fate of a digital product. In this article, we will discuss what is Digital Design. its importance along with some best practices to keep in mind while designing.

Digital design refers to the process of designing the user interaction and user experience with a digital product. A good digital design enables the user to easily navigate through the digital product resulting in higher user retention and user satisfaction. Digital design can be divided into four parts:

• **UI design: UI design or User Interface design is the process of creating the visual interfaces for a Digital product. There are lots of businesses where a designer will play both parts, but there are also lots of designers who specialize in UI design. UI designers help users to navigate an interface by using visual clues.
• **UX design: UX design or User Experience design is the process of creating the experiences or the interactions that a user has with a Digital product. The basic principle of UX design is to prioritize the user's needs and improve the interaction of the product for the user.
• **Graphic design: All the visual elements that are present as a part of design in Websites or Web applications or any other piece of software are considered as Graphics. The set of processes responsible for creating these visuals is called graphic design.
• **Web design: Web design is a set of processes for coming up with a designed working prototype of a website or a web application that can further be coded and brought into life by frontend developers.
• **Application Design: Application design is a set of processes that results in a working prototype of an application be it android or iOS application that an android or iOS developer can take further and create an application from.
• **Animations: The creative movement of text or visuals in a web application to catch the user's attention or bring the user's attention to a particular component in the design is called animation. Since Digital design is all about capturing the user's attention, it becomes necessary to use animation to communicate the value of the client's business delightfully.

Importance of Digital design

Since we have now discussed what Digital design actually is, to extend those points, here are few points on the importance of Digital design:

• **User retention: Retaining the user to spend more time on the product is completely independent of how good the codebase is. The user only looks and interacts with the interface not the code. Key to User retention is a good user interface coupled with great user experience. This hooks the user with the product and makes the user retain on the Digital product.
• **Data-Driven decision making: Digital design is conventionally thought of as designing the interface and structure of the product while it is much more than that. The first step of UI/UX is to research about the user need and present it to the business team. Researching about the customers gives valuable insights about the product and what things should be improved.
• **Brand Communication: The visual elements along with the copywriting will take the majority part of your communication for the Digital product and also the brand. Customer will only buy in your vision through effective communication and for that a communicative, visually rich UI is very important. Here good copywriting along with great UI can create a lasting impression in the mind of the user.
• **Higher LTV (Life Time Value): The aim of Digital design principles is to turn visitors into customers by providing a positive experience to them. A good user experience might not improve the number of users visiting to use your product but will surely improve the conversion rate of these visitors coming again and again resulting in overall higher life time value of every customer.

As much as development process is important in a product lifecycle, Digital design plays an equally important role. Digital design is not just about choosing the right contrast colors or using better visual elements. It's also about conveying your message to the user in the simplest way possible.
