liked it

This is one of those books that I ended up admiring rather than liking. It's certainly well written but with a sense of detachment that affected me also ; I found it far too easy to put the book down. I think the problem for me was with the central character, Hans. I found him to be something of a dry individual. Netherland worked best when focusing on the Cricket and Hans friend Chuck. The book really came alive then.
So, on balance ,I think two 🌟 would be unfair so it's a low three.
