I admire anyone who can read Henry James. Oh, how I have tried but I just can't enjoy his writing. I am obviously in the minority. ;>o
I was always the same - bogged down in the muddle of his middle period. No wonder - James was badly depressed for years in London! He has his alter ego Strether admit as much here. But here in the the Ambassadors, the black clouds disperse - and the skies are bright again - for James, too!
