Do you want to broaden your reading horizons and discover new books, authors and genres? Do you love reading challenges? Do you live for competition? Do you want to broaden your reading horizons and discover new books, authors and genres? Do you love reading challenges? Do you live for competition? Do you have a hard time deciding what you want to read next? Or do you simply enjoy discussing books with fellow readers? Each season (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) presents a new challenge with a series of reading related tasks. Each task is assigned a point level and then it's up to you to decide which tasks you'll attempt (or if you want to try to finish them all!) and then find and read the books that fit. It’s a fun way to stretch your reading radius and discover new books, authors, and genres. But be careful…it’s addictive! Your to-be-read shelf may never be the same! Begun by Cynthia in The Next Best Book Club, the SRC has grown through the participation of its members. To find out more about how the Seasonal Reading Challenge works, and how YOU can be a part of it, check out The Seasonal Reading Challenge Explained and Getting Started. ...more

Where in the world will your next book take you? If you love world literature, translated works, travel writing, or exploring the world through books, you have come to the right place! ATW80 began in 2009 as a challenge on TNBBC. The separate group was established in 2011. Anyone can join and participate in the challenges or readings at any time. Challenge participation is not a requirement of joining. Anyone who loves reading books from around the world is welcome here. The main purpose of this group is to travel the world through books, experiencing new authors and cultures along the way. Want to read about the world? We have close to 50,000 books cataloged by setting and more are added each week. I personally started reading around the world in 2008. This venture has introduced me to far off lands, fresh viewpoints, and many new authors I might not have discovered otherwise. Here is a record of my travels since 2009: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/18478768-diane-s-world-travels-by-book I have worked very hard gathering resources for others to use and coming up with new activities. Dear Readers, As part of my work with UN Women, I have started reading OUR SHARED SHELF IS CURRENTLY DORMANT AND NOT MANAGED BY EMMA AND HER TEAM. Dear Readers, As part of my work with UN Women, I have started reading as many books and essays about equality as I can get my hands on. There is so much amazing stuff out there! Funny, inspiring, sad, thought-provoking, empowering! I’ve been discovering so much that, at times, I’ve felt like my head was about to explode… I decided to start a Feminist book club, as I want to share what I’m learning and hear your thoughts too. The plan is to select and read a book every month, then discuss the work during the month’s last week (to give everyone time to read it!). I will post some questions/quotes to get things started, but I would love for this to grow into an open discussion with and between you all. Whenever possible I hope to have the author, or another prominent voice on the subject, join the conversation. If you fancy it, please join up and participate. Everyone is welcome. I would be honoured! Emma x" ...more
