I first read it several years ago while still in school. It did not disappoint me in the second read. There are very few modern-day writers who can match up to the magic of Sidney Sheldon’s writings. His books are a great cinematic experience and come well packed with engaging and thrilling plot, several twists and turns and a great satisfying end. This novel is no different. The South African setting adds a twisted edge to the storyline as do the three mercurial headstrong female protagonists. Highly recommended read. ...more

However, when I finally got around to finish it now, I find it more relevant to the society we are living in now than to the time period it was first published in. Extremely frightening read, it is a classic peep into the future we are creating for ourselves. ...more

In many ways the novel is a true reflection of the modern times as well. While reading the novel I remembered Frank Kafka’s quote- ‘One idiot is one idiot. Two idiots are two idiots. Then thousand idiots are a political party’. Like the novel Pinjar, it captures a period, where as a bystander who watch helplessly as poor innocent people find themselves trapped in a hopeless situation created by a few with vested interests. The novel is a strong commentary on how greed and politics corrupts absolutely. ...more

Perhaps as it is with most of these literary winners, you will find the hypothetical storyline in your own head! ...more

However, I found it to be powerless and exercise in futility. At best it is a story about a coward who deserts the army, seduces a girl, lives off the money borrowed from others and a selfish spoiled brat who is remorseless when his own new born son dies. The novel is a classic example of how a good marketing strategy can turn a dull writing into a best seller. Vita Sackville-West called it ‘A most beautiful moving and humane book’. Building and supporting a community of self-published authors dedicated to both sharing experiences and learning as equals. Founded in January 2015, this groups was initially designed as a way for me to support indie authors by reading their work and featuring them on my website. With the help of some patient and efficient moderators, Riley Amos Westbrook, BB Wynter, Dwayne Fry, J. Daniel Layfield, CB Archer, Tomas K, & Eldon Farrell, Support Indie Authors fights to help indie authors rise above the stigma that is self publishing, as well serves to provide a supportive environment for those who want to share experiences, ask for help, and simply find some friends with common goals. ...more
