I am incredibly grateful to Sherman Alexie for choosing to talk about my book out of all the books affected by the Hachette-Amazon dispute. And, wow, Colbert--thank you for the bump!
I am proud and excited to be a #1 bestseller at Powell's. I visited the store for the first time last fall and bought a dozen books and basically just wandered around in awe. Powell's! Me! Together! I think my face just melted off.(less)

The Fever is riveting, taut, expertly plotted and marvelously told. I love narratives about the dark, swampy inner lives and social politics of teenage girls and Abbott depicts such things with athletic prose that has just the right amount of poetic, sexy tang. I'm planning on interviewing her for The Millions, so stay tuned. To prepare before The Fever comes out, read (or re-read) her teenage cheerleading novel Dare Me. ...more

This book was very informative and well-balanced regarding the different types of maternity and labor care for women. A lot of fun facts about fetuses and such. Someone MUST write a historical novel about the first doctor to perform c-sections!

Topics Mentioning This Author

“We stand there, quiet. My questions all seem wrong: How did you get so old? Was it all at once, in a day, or did you peter out bit by bit? When did you stop having parties? Did everyone else get old too, or was it just you? Are other people still here, hiding in the palm trees or holding their breath underwater? When did you last swim your laps? Do your bones hurt? Did you know this was coming and hide that you knew, or did it ambush you from behind?”
