Leonard Cohen

“a kite is a victim you are sure of.
you love it because it pulls.”
― Leonard Cohen

Michael Boatman

“If only I could figure out how this %$@*@ computer works!”
― Michael Boatman

Hart Crane

“I wanted you, nameless Woman of the South,
No wraith, but utterly—as still more alone
The Southern Cross takes night
And lifts her girdles from her, one by one—
High, cool,
wide from the slowly smoldering fire
Of lower heavens,—
vaporous scars!

Eve! Magdalene!
or Mary, you?

Whatever call—falls vainly on the wave.
O simian Venus, homeless Eve,
Unwedded, stumbling gardenless to grieve
Windswept guitars on lonely decks forever;
Finally to answer all within one grave!

And this long wake of phosphor,
iridescent
Furrow of all our travel—trailed derision!
Eyes crumble at its kiss. Its long-drawn spell
Incites a yell. Slid on that backward vision
The mind is churned to spittle, whispering hell.

I wanted you . . . The embers of the Cross
Climbed by aslant and huddling aromatically.
It is blood to remember; it is fire
To stammer back . . . It is
God—your namelessness. And the wash—

All night the water combed you with black
Insolence. You crept out simmering, accomplished.
Water rattled that stinging coil, your
Rehearsed hair—docile, alas, from many arms.
Yes, Eve—wraith of my unloved seed!

The Cross, a phantom, buckled—dropped below the dawn.
Light drowned the lithic trillions of your spawn.”
― Hart Crane, The Bridge

Franklin Pierce

“ouch, an egg!”
― Franklin Pierce

George Elliott Clarke

“All books are merely delayed dust.”
― George Elliott Clarke

Please report to the Check yoself before you wreckyoself thread and introduce your little selves at once! We will might kick you out if you don't! Hello and welcome to our haven of accepted insanity. The group started as a Fever series buddy read and then grew into its own special brand of monster. This is one of the few places that you can let your freak flag fly and get no judgement from anybody. Jump in on buddy reads and conversations, pretty much anything goes. We hate adulting, but we read ADULT books. Mention anything fluffy/romance-ish or YA and there’s a slight chance Sarah will unleash her murderous shrimp army on you. Cursing is totally fine. Awkwardness is encouraged. Welcome All and stuff! ➽ Supposedly Useful links: ➘ The Scrumpalicious MacHalo Buddy Reading Calendar. Want to add it to your personal Google calendar? Click here for instructions and stuff. ➘ The MacHalo Discord Server: click here to join! ➽ The MacHalos read (sometimes), but they love music, too, and have a bunch of collaborative playlists on Spotify to prove it: · The Regular Playlist (well as regular as a MacHalo playlist can be, anyway) · The 80s Playlist · The Everything But English Playlist · The Chill It Out Playlist ⚠️ Membership requests by users with private profiles and/or authors will not be accepted. The research projects have been completed, and I would like to thank everybody who has participated.* So, I'm doing a super-important research project about the weirdos who inhabit the online community goodreads.com. What is this group for? THIS GROUP IS FOR ME TO INTERROGATE YOU YOU TO EXPRESS YOURSELF IN NEW, AMAZING WAYS BY ANSWERING QUESTIONS ABOUT THE WAY YOU USE GOODREADS. *UPDATE, 12/13/10: As of last week, I've reorganized the threads in the hopes of making it clear what actually pertains to the project, and what is just fun conversation! This isn't to discourage off-topicness, but will hopefully make it easier for new members to not get totally overwhelmed. Again, thanks for the great conversations, and I'll be posting more questions gradually.* Specifically, I'm doing a rhetoric project where I'm attempting to answer the questions: How are reviews on social cataloguing websites evolving as a genre? How do the authors of these reviews percieve the review writing process? Do these reviews all fit into one genre, or are there multiple genres of online book reviewing? I may develop more questions as the project goes on, but this is where I'm starting. ...more
