I was born in Leicester and support the Tigers and the recently promoted Foxes. I attended school in Yorkshire and university in Liverpool.

I have visited 96 countries and territories. My most recent trips in 2023 were to Islay, Jura, Madeira, Porto Santo, mainland Portugal, North-Eastern Turkey, Armenia, Georgia, and The Peloponnese.

I love photography and writing.

My newest book is called Dragon Lawyer : Scales of Justice and is about a young dragon called Wendy who becomes a lawyer in a parallel universe. She helps fairy tale characters obtain legal redress for the injustices they've suffered in previous stories.

Why I travel – Part 2

My regrets are that I didn’t travel to Libya and Iraq when I had a chance. The same applies to Sudan – I want to see their pyramids – I should have gone three years ago, but I was being greedy as I wanted to visit Ethiopia too and there was a war there, so I didn’t go to Sudan. There’s a lesson to learn.

However, I should concentrate on the places I have been to and think about all the things I’ve

This was the second time in 30 years the Egyptians had defeated these forces. The Sea Peoples were never referenced by the Egyptians again. The fortunes of the victors also never recovered completely and the reasons for this are probably the same as those that gave rise to the invasion of the Sea Peoples in the first place, a combination of drought, starvation, crop failures due to climate, disruption of international trade, and earthquakes, each a contributary factor to the collapse of civilisation in the Eastern Mediterranean, rather than the sole cause of it. The Sea Peoples probably came from Sardinia, Sicily, and Italy looking for new lands to conquer and this desire combined with the natural disasters previously mentioned that had weakened almost every empire led to the destruction of the Hittites, Mycenaeans, Cypriots, Canaanites, and other smaller city states. The Egyptians stopped the Sea Peoples but the natural disasters continued to affect them too. The Sea Peoples appear to have left no record of their existence, no writing and no archaeological record at any particular site. Therefore, there is some doubt they ever existed, but I think Medinet Habu proved they did. A fascinating book although frustrating to a point, as there is no definite answer to who the Sea Peoples were and there probably never will be. ...more
