Greece Inflation Eases Slightly in May (original) (raw)

The annual inflation rate in Greece edged down to 5.2% in May 2026 from 5.4% in the prior month.

Price growth slowed in housing and utilities (11.6% vs 13.8% in April), food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.5% vs 4.4%).

Decreases were also observed in alcoholic beverages and tobacco (-0.1% vs 1.4%), clothing and footwear (-0.9% vs 2.0%), furnishings and household equipment (-0.1% vs 0.1%), and information and communication (-2.7% vs -2.2%).

Meanwhile, inflation accelerated for transport (11.5% vs 10.0%), restaurants and accommodation (8.5% vs 6.1%), recreation and culture (1.4% vs 1.0%), while remained steady for education (at 2.8%) and health (at 1.2%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices were unchanged after rising 1.5% in the previous month.

Meanwhile, the EU-harmonised annual inflation rate rose to 4.9%, the highest since March 2023, and up from 4.6% previously.
