NBC Orders ‘For God and Country’ Military Drama Pilot (original) (raw)

Hours ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration, NBC has handed out a pilot order to military drama For God and Country.

The drama, which had been kept under wraps this development season but had a sizable penalty attached, is described as a heart-pounding look into the complex world of the country’s bravest military heroes who make personal sacrifices while executing the most challenging and dangerous missions behind enemy lines.

Dean Georgaris (Life of Pi) will pen the script and exec produce the drama via Keshet Media Group CEO Avi Nir and Keshet Studios topper Peter Traugott and his longtime producing partner Rachel Kaplan. For God and Country marks the first pilot to stem from Keshet’s first-look overall deal with NBC, which was set up in 2015. The drama is a co-production between Keshet (Showtime’s Homeland) and Universal Television.

For God and Country arrives as many broadcast networks found themselves re-examining their programming in the wake of a Trump victory, questioning whether their content appealed to middle America. ABC Entertainment chief Channing Dungey, for example, recently acknowledged that the rise of Trump and his blue-collar support forced her to question whether her programming was too focused on upper-income brackets.

This marks NBC’s second drama pilot order of the season after the network handed out an early pickup to Jenna Bans’ Good Girls, which explores what happens when three “good girl” suburban wives and mothers suddenly find themselves in desperate circumstances, they decide to stop playing it safe, and risk everything to take their power back.
