‘Watchmen’ Scribe Tackling ‘Gran Turismo’ for Columbia (Exclusive) (original) (raw)
Watchmen writer Alex Tse has been tapped to pen Gran Turismo, Columbia Pictures’ adaptation of the Sony Computer Entertainment video game.
Michael De Luca, Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti, who teamed for Captain Phillips, are producing.
Turismo, a racing game, is one of the biggest franchises on the PlayStation console, with sales in the 60millionto60 million to 60millionto70 million range.
Details of Tse’s take on a potential plot and story are being kept locked in the glove box.
These days it seems de rigueur for each studio to have a fast-car project. Universal has its billion-dollar franchise with Fast & Furious, and Legendary is developing a movie based on the Hot Wheels toy line. DreamWorks, meanwhile, this week unveiled the trailer for Need for Speed, starring Aaron Paul, also a video game adaptation.
Tse is one of the bigger names in genre screenwriting. In addition to Zack Snyder‘s Watchmen adaptation, his credits include working on The Crow remake and Ninja Scroll, a live-action adaptation of a popular Japanese anime film.
This year he wrote the script for Battling Boy, Paramount and Plan B’s adaptation of the Paul Pope graphic novel. (Boy hit shelves in October to great reviews.) And Tse is now penning a rewrite of Highlander, Summit’s remake of the 1986 adventure movie that has Cedric Nicolas-Troyan attached to direct.
Tse is repped by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Schreck Rose.
