Broad Green Casts Its Ensemble for Dance-Themed Comedy ‘Step Sisters’ (original) (raw)

Consider it a whole step. In one fell swoop, Broad Green Pictures has filled in the entire cast of its comedy Step Sisters, formerly titled Ain’t No Half Steppin‘.

The ensemble includes star Megalyn Echikunwoke (90210, House of Lies), Eden Sher (The Middle), Lyndon Smith (Secret in Their Eyes, Parenthood), Gage Golightly (Red Oaks, Teen Wolf), Nia Jervier (Dear White People), Alessandra Torresani (The Big Bang Theory), Marque Richardson (Dear White People, All the Way), Naturi Naughton (Power, Notorious) and Matt McGorry (Orange Is the New Black, How to Get Away With Murder).

The film is being directed by Charles Stone (Drumline).

Written by Chuck Hayward, Step Sisters centers on an ambitious black sorority girl (Echikunwoke) who, in order to get admitted to the law school of her dreams, agrees to cross cultural lines and teach the exclusive art of black Greek stepping to a band of wild, party-obsessed white sorority girls whose charter is about to be revoked.

Step Sisters is set to begin shooting June 1 in Atlanta. Broad Green plans to release the film theatrically in 2017.

Matt Alvarez (Straight Outta Compton, the Ride Along franchise), who recently was hired to head up Broad Green’s growing production department, is producing alongside Lena Waithe (Dear White People) and Benjamin Cory Jones (Hand of God). Broad Green’s Josh Reinhold is an executive producer.

Echikunwoke is repped by UTA; Smith and McGorry are handled by Gersh; Golightly is with ICM Partners; Jervier is repped by The Glick Agency; Naughton is handled by Innovative Artists; Sher is with Paradigm; Torresani is repped by Don Buchwald & Associates; and Richardson is handled by LINK Entertainment.

Up next for Broad Green is the Bryan Cranston-led thriller The Infiltrator, due out July 13.
