BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The Donnelly Public Library has announced via social media that they will be transitioning to an "adult only" library as of July 1.

The Library shared on its Facebook account that the change is due to the passage of HB710, legislation referred to as the "library porn" bill that enables anyone to sue the library if children are exposed to inappropriate or adult material. Donnelly Public Library says that due to its small size and the "ambiguous" language of the bill, the change is the only way they can assure compliance with the law, which goes into effect on July 1.

House Bill 710 says that "obscene content" will be "Judged by the average person, applying contemporary community standards." The bill passed and was signed into law by Governor Little earlier this year, though it took several different iterations and attempts to get the bill across the finish line.

Opponents of the bill included librarians, teachers, and others who feared similar outcomes to that of the Donnelly Public Library.

CBS2 is investigating how many other libraries across the State are implementing similar changes. If you have any information or a story related to the library bill, please email the newsroom.
