The literal translation of the title of this movie is: New Cross Roads (at Shanghai).
The film crew did a great job comparing two Shanghai, the old Shanghai that was more than half a century ago, and the new Shanghai, the current Shanghai today. However, such the result of such comparison is rather sad: things have not improved, or things have returned to what is was more than half a century ago. The current social problems is exactly the same as it was more than half a century ago, such as the unemployment of newly grad, and long working hours of workers who had to endure the poor working conditions. You have to watched Shi Zi Jie Tou (at Cross Roads) made in 1937 to understand this movie.
