Ryans to rebuild 18th century mansion (original) (raw)
Peter Gleeson PERMISSION has been granted for reconstruction of a luxurious Co Tipperary mansion bought by business tycoon, Tony Ryan.
The project on Kilboy House, in Dolla, five miles from Nenagh, follows a fire that destroyed a large part of the property last year.
North Tipperary County Council has decided to allow the application for the partial demolition of the existing fire-damaged listed single-storey dwelling. It will be replaced by a grand three-storey period residence over basement.
The application, in the name of Tony Ryan's son, Shane, and his wife, states that the aim is to rebuild the house as it was originally constructed in 1780.
Co-incidentally, the house, situated in the Kilboy Estate, was burnt down during the Civil War but was rebuilt by the then owner Lord Dunalley. Lack of funds resulted in the house being reduced to a single-storey property in the 1950s.
Before works commence the Ryans must pay ?60,964 to the council as a contribution to providing public infrastructure such as roads and water.
