Academy governor DuVernay calls attention to how exclusion "has a particular and heightened meaning to many" — and not just those Oscar nominees affected by the recent category shake-up.

The "Nightmare Alley" director shut down the Academy's decision to pre-tape eight categories including crafts team awards and short films.

The Academy class of 2021 is is comprised of 46 percent women and 53 percent international members.

The museum, which opens in September, has announced its initial programming lineup that kicks off next month.

Representing the next generation of filmmakers, the winners discussed the importance of film serving as a medium for diverse perspectives.
