"Bodies Bodies Bodies" filmmaker Halina Reijn helms the A24 erotic thriller.
Venice: Nicole Kidman’s bold performance in “Babygirl” elicited applause before the film had even finished.
Halina Reijn's psychosexual "Babygirl" was the talk of Venice after premiering Friday night, and surely the buzziest competition premiere so far.
Venice: Kidman is all raw nerve in Halina Reijn's sexy provocation that makes no moral judgments, instead celebrating sex, onscreen and off, for what it is and can be.
The erotic thriller starring Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson should "function as a tribute to self-love and liberation," Reijn said at a Venice press conference packed with questions about sex and nudity.
"This is something you do and hide in your home videos," the Oscar winner said of her erotic A24 thriller. "It is not a thing that normally is going to be seen by the world."
Additional screenings include "Babygirl," "The Room Next Door," and the world premiere of "On Swift Horses" starring Jacob Elordi and Daisy Edgar-Jones.
