Cognate with Koshikijima うーし uushi; Okinawan (Akajima, Shuri) うし ushi; Yonaguni うち uchi; and standard Japanese うし【牛】 ushi "cow". Possibly related to Korean 소 so "cow; bull; ox" and Old Silla and Old Koguryo 首 *siu "ox".
