Introduction

Here are some snaps I made with a Canon SD880 pocket camera on a trip to Arizona and New Mexico.

This isn't a gallery of edited shots. This is a gallery of JPG snapshots straight out out of a pocket camera to help you see what it can do.

Of course I tweaked the in-camera settings as I shot, typically VIVID colors, -2/3 exposure compensation (varying anywhere from +1/3 to -2 stops), and AWB, cloudy or custom WB, but I did no editing.

Each of these snaps was resized and branded to fit your screen, otherwise, each is exactly as shot: no cropping, no spotting, no color correction, no burning, no dodging, no filtering, no exposure correction, no wire removal, and no nothing other than what came out of the SD880.

I opened each JPG in Photoshop, and hit my action to resize and brand each shot, and that's it. All the wild colors you see are from pointing the camera at colorful things, and setting it to VIVID (press FUNC, click two down to OFF, one right to VIVID, and hit FUNC again.)

I also photographed with a Nikon loaded with Fuji Velvia 50, whose photos you can see at my November 2008 New Mexico Gallery. Feel free to compare many of the same shots as photographed on film versus captured digitally.

05 November 2008, Wednesday

I left La Jolla and headed out to Arizona.

Yucca, Arizona.

Abandoned Motel, Route 66, Arizona.

Supai Motel

Supai Motel, Seligman Arizona.

That's it for the day: 400 miles and 6 hours of road time.

06 November 2008, Thursday

Seligman Grocery.

Seligman Grocery, Seligman Arizona.

Souvenirs, Seligman Arizona

Souvenirs, Seligman Arizona.

Santa Clause

Santa's Coming! Seligman, Arizona.

Red "T"

The Big Red T, Seligman, Arizona.

I hit the road for the rest of the day to get to Albuquerque. Be careful in Arizona, because they don't screw around. I was stopped by the Arizona Highway Patrol and written up for doing 67MPH in a 65MPH zone on I-40!

I support my growing family through this website.

If you find this as helpful as a book you might have had to buy or a workshop you may have had to take, feel free to help me continue helping everyone.

If you've gotten your gear through one of my links or helped otherwise, you're family. It's great people like you who allow me to keep adding to this site full-time. Thanks!

If you haven't helped yet, please do, and consider helping me with a gift of $5.00.

The biggest help is to use these links to Adorama, Amazon, B&H andeBay when you get your goodies. It costs you nothing and is a huge help to me. eBay is always a gamble, but all the other places have the best prices and service, which is why I've used them since before this website existed. I recommend them all personally.

Thanks for reading!

Ken
