Diversity, in my opinion, is a term that has been diluted over the last 10 years or so. It spans beyond checking the box of race, gender, religion, or sex. The power of diversity comes from the different perspectives (cultivated from a range of backgrounds, disciplines, professional + personal experiences, and world views). The benefit manifests itself in outcomes resulting from multiple inputs on problem solving approaches leading to the optimal outcome. For example, at one point I had a former bartender, a former teacher, a former athlete, and a philosophy major on my team. All from vastly different backgrounds. This resulted in rich conversations surrounding mission critical problems and ultimately benefited the team as a whole.
Interesting and yet a very common mistake majority follow: “Same expectations from everyone in the team” - No one shoe fits all In Sales as a function we need to understand and embrace the strengths of every individual wherein the practice seems to be contrary. Every individual has different skillsets and to make them adapt the new ones you need to first adhere to the ones they actually vest. Some are all rounders, some are solution finders, few are empathetic and most are bots. If we assign the tasks given their best abilities, we can harness maximum efficiency and pull out results in the most optimal way. Specifically without exhausting anyone. There is much more that we can discuss on the same, but for now I hope it helps.
