Our planet has 51 billion hectares, of which 36 billion are covered by oceans (71%) and 15 billion are land (29%). Of these, 5 billion hectares (10%) are used for crops (2.0 B ha) & pastures (3.0 B ha). This means that there are 46 billion hectares (90%) of area on our planet (land + oceans) that people should focus on first, instead of bothering the 10% that uses the land to feed us! I would invite the critics of agriculture to first learn about the basics, get out of their urban bubble, understand the entire ecosystem of our planet, understand that maybe they are serving as pawns for others who have a great interest in controlling the planet by weakening a key point which is the food producers.
Em países em desenvolvimento, como o Brasil, é muito importante também fortalecer as instituições representativas de classe, bem como eleger deputados e senadores que possam defender o setor.
It is critical that land use controls and policies for farming areas understand agriculture production systems. This is sometimes called 'right to farm' but really it is about ensuring agriculture production can evolve to produce food and fibre with high welfare, safety and sustainability standards.
