About us
Since our inception in 1996, we were founded on a simple principle: Every student, regardless of their background, has the right to pursue their potential and deserves access to attainable education. When life’s circumstances leave students falling behind or at-risk of dropping out of school, we refuse to accept that opportunity gap. We strive to help every student discover what’s possible and we believe every student can learn – some just need something different. To address the growing challenges for today’s students, we developed a self-paced and technology- enhanced learning model designed around each student’s unique needs. Individualized instruction is delivered in a safe, controlled environment supplemented with intensive wraparound services that support the whole student, and is delivered by certified, supportive staff that go above and beyond for our students. Students emerge from our programming resilient, optimistic, and prepared for success after high school. Today, we operate as a full-service school management company offering best-in-class dropout prevention and recovery programming. In partnership with our non-profit charter school boards and authorizers, we support underserved communities and deliver results – 20,000 graduates and counting. We are thrilled to share exciting news about the next chapter of our organization. After years of deepening our impact with students, their families and our partners, Accelerated Learning Solutions is now Second Mile Education. This new name reflects our mission to do more than educate—it captures our commitment to going the extra mile for our students, many of whom face unique challenges and need a path designed specifically for them. It’s not just about acceleration; it’s about resilience, empowerment, and walking alongside each student as they overcome life’s hurdles and achieve their full potential. While our name has changed, our purpose remains the same: to deliver flexible, personalized, and supportive education that changes lives. At Second Mile Education, we remain grounded in our guiding principles: building strong connections within the community, fostering optimism, cultivating resilience, delivering meaningful student impact, and embracing lifelong learning. As part of this evolution, we are introducing a new logo to represent our journey. The logo features a curving “2” symbolizing the student’s path to success—a winding line we call the “resilient route.” Alongside this is our tagline, “Accelerated Learning, Lasting Success,” which reflects both our rich history and our ongoing commitment to preparing students for bright futures. We are proud to share just a few examples of the impact we achieved together with our partners last year: 🟠 An 87% increase in the credit-earning rate for students entering our program 🔵 93% of parents would recommend our schools to a friend or family member 🟡 91% of our schools earned the highest possible state accountability rating Since we first began this journey, over 20,000 students have graduated with a fully accredited diploma, prepared to succeed in college, careers, and life. Going forward, our mission remains unchanged. Second Mile Education continues to offer the same comprehensive educational and school management services, now with a name that better reflects who we are and what we do. After celebrating our largest graduating class ever in 2024, we’re thrilled to recognize a major milestone for ALS Education: 20,000 graduates! So many of our students never believed they could graduate. Each of them, from our first graduating class to today, stands as a testament to what’s possible with a flexible model and collaborative partnerships.
