AFSP creates a culture that’s smart about mental health through education and community programs, develops suicide prevention through research and advocacy, and provides support for those affected by suicide. Supporting a suicide loss survivor can be challenging, but sometimes, even just a few words can speak volumes. Here are some ideas of what to say, but also remember that when words fail, empathy and a listening ear can provide comfort to survivors too. International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day, also known as Survivor Day, takes place this year on Saturday, November 23. This annual occasion is an opportunity for those who have been affected by suicide loss to gather at events around the world and find connection, understanding, and hope through shared experience. We are thrilled to announce our virtual Día de Esperanza (Day of Hope) event on Friday, November 22, at 4 pm ET! This event, conducted in Spanish, will be moderated by AFSP's Vice President of Public Relations, María de los Ángeles Corral, and will feature panelists Laura Ramos from the Central Texas Chapter and Martin Reyes from the Nevada Chapter.
