About us

Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) is a community-focused, non-profit affordable housing developer. Since 1975, AHC Inc. has developed more than 50 apartment communities with more than 8,200 affordable apartments in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC. AHC also provides extensive educational programs and social services onsite at our apartment communities to enhance residents’ lives – and the communities we serve. AHC prioritizes community-building, equity, and diversity throughout our organization - from thoughtful engagement with the residents we serve to long-time relationships with local government and community partners. Our outstanding real estate track record includes innovative development strategies, award-winning architectural design, cutting-edge environmental solutions, and long-time partnerships and quality developments that strengthen neighborhoods and local economies. AHC’s nationally recognized Resident Services program initiated nearly 30 years ago, is helping build stronger futures for more than 3,000 children, youth, and adults who live in our affordable housing communities through education programs, social services, community partnerships, and access to local support. Our team has earned the industry-leader CORES certification, which recognizes AHC’s ongoing commitment to the highest standards for resident services. Volunteer opportunities include working with elementary students in our Afterschool or Summer Program and teens in our Tutoring and College and Career Readiness Programs. We are proud that 100% of the students in our education programs have graduated from high school, with the majority going to college - most the first in their families to achieve this life-changing milestone. Last month, City of Baltimore’s Register of Wills hosted a workshop for residents in our Women’s Empowerment program at Barclay Greenmount. The Honorable Belinda K. Conaway, along with staff members Ms. Green-Sanders and Katie Davis, provided valuable information on will and estate planning. This workshop was an important step in empowering our residents with the tools and knowledge to secure their futures and their families' futures.
Today, Alan Goldstein, Vice President of Real Estate Development at AHC, presented about The Westerly, AHC’s newest community in Washington, D.C., at the NeighborWorks America National Real Estate Advisory Committee (REAC) meeting. He was joined by Matt Greeson, AHC’s legal counsel from Reno & Cavanaugh, PLLC. Together, they discussed the project’s concept, history, financials, and legal framework. The goal was to share AHC’s innovative approach to The Westerly with real estate professionals in this national network, helping them develop similar projects in their own communities.

On November 9, Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC), True Ground Housing Partners, and Wesley Housing joined forces to host a community health fair at the Lubber Run Community Center in Arlington. The event featured free health services like HIV testing, substance use recovery support, and wellness activities like DIY stress ball workshops and pumpkin painting. "There is an inextricable link between stable housing and health outcomes,” Cindy Rozón, Senior Director of Resident Services at AHC, said. “At AHC, we know that access to health resources ultimately fosters economic mobility." This event highlighted the power of community collaboration in supporting both health and housing. Dyslexic Edge Academy, our new program with partners Dyslexic Edge, the Booz Allen Foundation, and IMSE Orton-Gillingham, is helping AHC students in grades 1-3 learn and grow in exciting ways. This program combines essential reading intervention with fun, hands-on STEM activities to help students thrive. Check out this video to learn more about the program and watch as kids learn how to power a clock with lemons.
