Are you investing in the growth and development of your team? Are you spending time with your team? These two questions always remind me of the debate between a CEO and CFO. CFO: what if we invest and grow them, and they leave? CEO: what if we don’t invest or grow them, and they stay? Professional Organization conferences, like the annual (APA California) American Planning Association conference hosted by APA Inland Empire Section, are a great way for your team to learn and grow by attending sessions by leaders, colleagues and peers on best practices and/or leading trends, challenges or opportunities facing cities. At the City of Menifee we have a number of our planning teammates at all levels of the department attending the conference to learn and grow. Investing in our teammate’s growth is important to us as a city so that we can serve our residents and businesses to the best of our abilities! These conferences are also a great way to network with planning professionals in public, private, consulting, academic and non profit realms, so that as you are tackling a challenge and turning it into an opportunity, you have people to reach out to for guidance or to submit on a Request for Proposal. Pictured below, our City Planning Team dinner at the conference! It’s also important to have FUN with your team so they feel valued, seen, heard, appreciated and respected! It’s these soft skills, that are the hard currency necessary to attract and retain your talented teammates! By the way, we have a Senior Planner recruitment for your consideration to apply in a fast passed and growing city with great current planning entitlements and long range projects Cheryl Kitzerow, AICP Orlando Hernandez Douglas A. Our team has been having a great time connecting with past students and people interested in #professionaldevelopment at this year's APA California Conference! They're also enjoying the incredible hospitality of Downtown Riverside. If you're in attendance, be sure to visit booth B34 and say hello to Monica and Ruth! 🍊🪴 - APA California reposted this

We are so honored to have APA President ANGELA BROOKS, FAICP join us to kick off this year's #APACalifornia2024 conference. Her remarks and insightful contributions at yesterday’s diversity plenary remind me why I proudly serve on your APA California board leadership and continue to validate why I became a planner. This year marks my 20th year in the profession, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this year’s conference, to celebrate our achievements, and to learn from one another. - APA California reposted this

Nothing like being recognized for your efforts and hardwork. I was honored to join Niki Wetzel, Chris Chung, AICP, and Mary Martinez as the recipient of the APA California Award of Merit - Planning Agency. After 7 years working at City of Garden Grove Planning Division, I believe this team is made up of the nicest, most supportive and knowledgeable planners you will find anywhere. And, I feel very fortunate to be a part. Through challenges, we grow. (Maria Parra, Priit Kaskla)
