By developing secure, reliable and innovative network infrastructures and associated services with and for our communities, Belnet, as a national research network, helps build tomorrow's education, research and government. Belnet's mission is to operate a high-performance network for universities, colleges, research centres and government departments. The Belnet network is also the gateway to other research networks worldwide and is therefore an engine for (inter)national cooperation in education and research. In addition, our network is a crucial building block for the federal government's digital services. As their IT partner, we contribute to an efficient use of available resources by maximising synergies and economies of scale. Belnet is constantly working on a service offering tailored to the specific needs of its communities. We develop and manage solutions and platforms that support them in the areas of trust & security, cloud, mobility and open science. Collaboration, co-creation and innovation are the driving forces behind everything we do. ✨ Great to see BNIX - Belgian National Internet eXchange, part of Belnet, represented at the #EUROIX44 Forum in Vienna! These gatherings are an important opportunity for Internet Exchange operators to exchange knowledge, align on technical developments, and discuss the evolving needs of a more resilient and interconnected internet ecosystem. All of it continuing to be key priorities for both Belnet and BNIX - Belgian National Internet eXchange. We look forward to continuing this collaboration within the Euro-IX (European Internet Exchange Association) community and strengthening the role of IXPs in supporting an open and reliable internet in the years ahead. 🎉
Second and final day of the 44th Euro-IX Forum in Vienna… or should we say, Revenge of the Fifth? Last night’s dinner was held at the Wiener Rathauskeller, nestled beneath Vienna’s iconic City Hall. Dating back to the late 19th century, this unique venue is renowned for its vaulted ceilings, traditional décor, and warm Austrian hospitality. After a day of sessions exploring the future of IXPs, alongside more technical deep dives, Tuesday wrapped up on a high note with a lively quiz, brilliantly co-hosted by our colleague Frédéric Libotte. Cette semaine, nous nous sommes réunis chez Belnet après le travail pour un moment convivial mêlant départ, arrivée et célébration. 🎵 Le tout dans une ambiance musicale, grâce au talent de nos collègues, qui a rendu ce moment encore plus chaleureux. Un beau mélange d’émotions pour remercier une collègue, accueillir un nouveau membre dans l’équipe sécurité et célébrer un anniversaire professionnel au sein de l’équipe engineering. 🎉 ________________ Deze week kwamen we na het werk samen bij Belnet voor een gezellig moment met afscheid, verwelkoming en viering. 🎵 Dit alles in een muzikale sfeer, dankzij het talent van onze collega’s, wat het moment nog aangenamer maakte. Onze collega Henri blikt in een blogartikel terug op het onderhoudswerk van onze backbones. 🦸♂️ Werk dat onze teams tot echte “helden achter de schermen” maakt, die in alle discretie ervoor zorgen dat elke wijziging aan ons netwerk zonder onderbreking of hinder voor onze gebruikers verloopt.
