This past Friday, Dr. Denise De Las Nueces, our Interim CEO and Chief Medical Officer (second from right), spoke on a joint panel co-hosted by the Biogen Foundation and the Red Sox Foundation on how we can continue to build health equity in our community. She was accompanied by Dr. Bisola Ojikutu, Boston’s Commissioner of Public Health and Executive Director of the Boston Public Health Commission, Dr. Monera Wong, Chief Medical Officer at The Dimock Center, and Dominique Morgan, Chief Operating Officer at Health Leads. BHCHP was proud to join in an authentic conversation between health experts, nonprofit and for-profit entities who are paramount to the future of health and ensuring it’s accessible for our most vulnerable and underserved populations. Photo credit: Red Sox Foundation - Yesterday, our staff gathered for BHCHP’s annual and beloved Employee Appreciation Event held here in the lovely Atrium of our primary hub at 780 Albany St. We had a blast celebrating the 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 year work anniversaries, as well as individual staff contributions over the last year. Many congrats to all who were recognized – we are so grateful to our 600+ employees who diligently work together to advance our mission . If you’re looking to join a mission-driven organization with competitive benefits, friendly colleagues and meaningful work, look no further! We’ve got clinical and non-clinical openings here at BHCHP and we want you to be a part of this community. For more info and to apply, click here. https://bit.ly/3Rizz7S

- With school back in session, a big shout out and thank you to the Backpack for Kids Foundation and St. Ignatius Church (Chestnut Hill) for their annual donations of backpacks with school supplies for our youngest patients. Did you know that families make up 2/3 of the homeless population in Massachusetts? Most have histories of trauma, including some 82% of families in BHCHP’s care, and face immense barriers to accessing health care. Our Family Team has been caring for families experiencing homelessness since 1985 in shelters throughout the city. In 2021, we opened a dedicated Family Team clinic based in Roxbury where families can access medical and behavioral health care and case management by our skilled staff. This generous donation of backpacks allow our pediatric patients to start the new school year with the tools they need to learn. We are truly grateful to our community partners for their continued shower of care and support. To learn more about childhood homelessness and how it impacts back to school transition, read this American Academy of Pediatrics piece by Dr. Aura Obando, medical director of our Family team. https://bit.ly/47yxdtN

Our sincere thanks to the Boston Business Journal for honoring BHCHP and Boston Scientific with their annual Corporate Citizenship Community Collaborator Award this Thursday. We’re delighted to have our longstanding partnership with Boston Scientific recognized at such an inspiring event! For nearly 20 years - half of our program’s history- Boston Scientific and its extraordinary employees have partnered with BHCHP help us achieve our mission. And it is truly a model for an impactful, multifaceted partnership. Just to share a couple of examples: Boston Scientific and its employees have helped us to innovate and combat some of our community’s most vexing challenges. For example, their support has allowed us to more than double the percentage of patients receiving cervical cancer and colon cancer screenings. These services can be life-saving and life-changing for our patients, while changing the trajectory of the health inequities this population endures. Their incredible employees—like Jenni Mehl, who accepted last night's award on behalf of Boston Scientific—have been leaders in our program, dedicating their time to building awareness and advocating for our patients needs, and rolling up their sleeves to volunteer and make a difference in our patients’ lives and health. We're truly lucky to partner with great companies across Boston to advance our mission one step at a time. And we would love to expand our network as we get ready to celebrate our 40th anniversary next year. If you would like to learn more about corporate engagement opportunities at BHCHP, please reach out to Edith Gregory, Corporate Relations Manager at egregory@bhchp.org. Thank you! - ✨ We’re stoked to see the talented Brianna Borghi from WCVB Channel 5 return to emcee our BHCHP Emerging Leaders Board Fall Soirée again! This October 24, come with your squad of friends or work colleagues or come by yourself and we guarantee you a fantastic evening socializing and learning about our Emerging Leaders group and how YOU can get involved. Discounted Early Bird tickets are going fast and are on sale until Sept 8! Don’t wait – buy your ticket today and get ready to celebrate and be inspired by the kindness and the collective impact of Boston’s young professionals and organizations on our BHCHP community. It’s going to be a fun evening with great food, drinks, dancing and a celebration of kindness! Hope to see you there. For event details, click here. https://bit.ly/3Arc2gM
