About us
Boston Children's Hospital is a 404-bed comprehensive center for pediatric health care. As one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States, Boston Children's offers a complete range of health care services for children from birth through 21 years of age. (Our services can begin interventions at 15 weeks gestation and in some situations we also treat adults.) We have approximately 25,000 inpatient admissions each year and our 200+ specialized clinical programs schedule 557,000 visits annually. Last year, the hospital performed more than 26,500 surgical procedures and 214,000 radiological examinations. Our team of physicians and nurses has been recognized by a number of independent organizations for overall excellence, and we're proud to share some notable examples with you here.

Shortly after Layla was born she was diagnosed with a life-threatening liver condition and needed a transplant in order to survive. Throughout Layla’s extended stay at Boston Children’s our Milagros Para Niños program supported Layla, her mom Diana, and their family. Today, Layla is thriving and nearly three. We are so thankful to NBC Boston Stations and Melody Mendez for sharing Layla’s story and shining a spotlight on 15 years of Milagros Para Niños.

- Socioeconomic adversity has been linked to an increased risk of multiple sclerosis (MS) and other neurological conditions in adults. Could the same be true for children? A recent case-control study by Sarah Jensen, PhD; Mark Gorman, MD, director of our Neuroimmunology Center; and others sheds more light. After reviewing data from 17 sites in the U.S., his team found that participants who were diagnosed with pediatric-onset MS before age 18 were less likely than their peers to have a mother with a bachelor’s degree or higher and were more likely to live in disadvantaged neighborhoods — however, these factors didn’t affect the age of onset or disease severity. 👇
