Los Angeles Air Quality Update: Let’s all do what we can to support one another and reduce air pollution exposure during this challenging time. 💙 As crews work tirelessly to contain the fires, air quality across #LA is dynamic and shifting rapidly due to changing wind patterns. While some areas have seen air quality improve, large areas of the LA metro — particularly in Northern and Central LA — continue to see significantly reduced #airquality. Going into the weekend, please keep an eye on air quality trends, which can change rapidly under wildfire conditions. To help you stay informed, we encourage you to check this real-time air quality map. With sensors deployed across the LA Metro area by the Coalition for Clean Air and Los Angeles Unified School District Know Your Air Network, you’re likely to find one near you.: https://lnkd.in/g62wtsuu. With #wildfire smoke spreading unpredictably, it’s critical to keep a close eye on AQ levels throughout the weekend. Elevated #airpollution — especially from #wildfiresmoke —can have severe health impacts, particularly for vulnerable populations. If the map shows elevated air pollution in your area, please take action to protect yourself and your loved ones: - Stay indoors as much as possible - Keep windows and doors closed - Use an air purifier if available - Wear an N95 mask outdoors#LosAngelesFires #StaySafe #CommunitySupport - Here’s how Brightline is making an impact at the intersection of climate change, public health, and environmental justice: This week, our Program Manager Caro Correa joined Matt Wolff from SF Department of Public Health (SFDPH) to speak to 80 first-year University of California, San Francisco medical students. Together, we talked about: 💨 🔥How climate change can worsen the health of underserved communities ⚖️ Why systemic, collaborative solutions across government, community orgs, and academia are essential in tackling climate change 🤝 Why local and community leaders should be centered in driving this change At Brightline, we believe in empowering communities with the tools and knowledge to create healthier, safer futures! 🌱 Stay connected to see the impact of our efforts here: https://lnkd.in/gwVB7SMc
- Thanks to the California Air Resources Board Community Air Grant, Brightline is deploying new Black Carbon Monitors in Eastern San Francisco. With this technology, we’re taking a big step toward identifying where pollution is coming from and empowering communities with data to demand cleaner air. 💨 Through collective action and shared commitment, we’re paving the way for cleaner, healthier communities. - 2024: A Year of Community Impact at Brightline! This year, we’ve been honored to take important steps toward environmental justice and healthier communities. Here’s what we accomplished together: 💨 100 air purifiers distributed = 100 families breathing healthier air. 🌟 15 community leaders trained to advocate for cleaner, healthier neighborhoods. 📊 15 air quality sensors deployed and 2 monitors upgraded to track Black Carbon in San Francisco. 🎉 9 community events hosted, bringing neighbors together for education, connection, and celebration. At Brightline, community is at the heart of everything we do. These milestones were made possible through collaboration, dedication, and support from people like you! As a nonprofit, we depend on the support of our community to continue this work. Every donation, big or small, help us create cleaner air and healthier neighborhoods in the Bay Area. Let’s finish the year stronger together! 👉Donate now to support our mission: https://lnkd.in/gevwgaMU
- This holiday season, La Voz Latina and CCSROC brought the holiday spirit to the Tenderloin with their annual Winter Wonderland event. But this event was about more than just about the holidays. It was about creating a sense of connection and belonging for families in one of San Francisco’s most historically underserved neighborhoods. At Brightline, we’re honored to support and collaborate with partners like La Voz Latina and CCSROC. Their dedication to empowering families and strengthening communities aligns with our mission to advocate for environmental justice in the Bay Area. Together, we’re building brighter futures, one event and one connection at a time.

We believe that empowering tomorrow’s leaders starts with education. Last week in partnership with Chinatown Community Development Center, we took our Chinatown GOES youth leaders on a behind the scenes look at the agencies that shape our air quality and transportation systems. These young leaders dove into: 🌱The roles of key agencies like BAAQMD & MTC 🌱How bills and policies move through legislative processes 🌱 The real-world impact of clean air policies on their communities Why does this matter? 🧐 These experiences give our youth the tools they need to become advocates for environmental justice in Chinatown and beyond. By understanding the system, we’re hoping these young leaders can one day create change in their community. Curious about how Brightline is empowering the next generation? Sign up for our newsletter to see how we’re connecting communities to the resources and knowledge they need to advocate for a cleaner future. https://lnkd.in/gwVB7SMc - "Don’t lose faith, don’t rest, don’t stop what you believe will help the community." In our latest podcast episode, we sit down with Rosa, one of our incredible community leaders, as she shares her passion for environmental justice and the strength it takes to fight for change. This sneak peek is just the beginning of the work they’ve done. - Can something as simple as an air purifier transform someone’s life? For Miryam Aspajo, a Tenderloin resident, the answer is yes. Earlier this year, Brightline partnered with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to distribute 100 air purifiers to communities most affected by poor air quality, like the Tenderloin. Miryam shared that since having an air purifier, she no longer needs her asthma medication. At Brightline, we believe clean air isn’t just a privilege, it’s a right. Stories like Miryam’s remind us why we’re committed to fighting for environmental equity, one neighborhood at a time. Want to hear more stories of impact? Tune into our latest podcast episode, featuring Miryam and another community leader, Rosa, as they share their experiences with air quality, environmental justice, and the impact clean air has on their communities. https://lnkd.in/g3tygx9b
