This month, our Monuments Preservation team was joined by interns with The Woodlawn Cemetery & Conservancy’s Bridge to Crafts Careers program to help clean and conserve the ever-popular Alice in Wonderland monument. - Decades of planning and investments from the #CentralParkConservancy is coming to fruition in what The New York Times is calling the golden age of parks. https://nyti.ms/4fGQ3l9The innovative design of the new Davis Center at the Harlem Meer brings architecture and landscape together to create a new recreational experience integrated into Central Park’s historic landscape. Slated to open in early 2025, the Davis Center will transform the northern end of Central Park, emphasizing the landscape experience for visitors while delivering a new state-of-the-art ice rink, swimming pool and turf for the surrounding community to enjoy.
- Central Park Conservancy President & CEO Betsy Smith recently joined Director of Gardens Diane Schaub, along with the 'luckiest bees in New York', to tour the Conservatory Garden's French-style North Garden, where the Korean chrysanthemums are currently in full bloom. The Conservatory Garden has been under restoration for 2 and a half years and it's been a big undertaking by the Central Park Conservancy. If you're in New York, you can visit these gorgeous blooms right now. And stay tuned for the opening of the Italianate Center Garden next year!
- This morning, Central Park Conservancy CEO Betsy Smith, alongside New York Road Runners, government agencies, and other partners, painted the ceremonial blue line ahead of this weekend's NYC Marathon. Thanks to the Conservancy's 400+ staff, we will welcome 50k runners—who will be greeted by the most spectacular foliage—into the Park on Sunday.
- Is it any surprise that Central Park was named the number one tourist attraction in the country? The U.S. was named the top country for tourism in 2024 and for many visitors, the Park is a must-visit destination. And as its stewards, the Central Park Conservancy is committed to serving the public’s best interests and providing the oversight and expertise necessary to ensure that this world-class greenspace is accessible to all, local and beyond. https://bit.ly/3C0OY9D
- We’re excited to announce the upcoming opening of the Davis Center at the Harlem Meer—a $160 million investment in equity that will transform the northern end of Central Park. This project reflects the Central Park Conservancy’s more than 40-year commitment to ensuring that all New Yorkers have access to nature, recreation, and wellness. The Davis Center will feature a state-of-the-art ice rink, a larger-than-Olympic-size swimming pool, and new public spaces to serve the surrounding Harlem communities and beyond. This restoration, the largest in the Conservancy’s recent history, highlights the vital role of public spaces in fostering community and well-being.
