We aim to reduce material extraction by creating equitable, local recovery systems linked to global supply chains.
About us
The Circular Supply Chain Coalition (CSCC) aims to reduce material extraction by creating equitable, local recovery systems linked to global supply chains. In an initial project funded by FedEx, with guidance from Pyxera Global (serving as Secretariat) and Metabolic, we identified an opportunity and a market need to enhance the capacity and connections of social enterprises working toward a circular economy. These enterprises primarily work to recover materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. Many of these social enterprises operate on a hyperlocal level and lack the reach and resources to scale their efforts. Meanwhile, large corporations are increasingly interested in using recycled materials in their products (i.e., lithium from used batteries in electric vehicle batteries). In a fully implemented CSCC project, small businesses in one city that process e-waste will be networked together in a cooperative model. They will sell recovered materials to a large clean energy technology manufacturer through a forward procurement financial mechanism called a Circular Services Agreement. The CSCC will coordinate and implement that new supply chain. Our first demonstration site will be in Atlanta, Phoenix, or Cleveland and we are currently seeking funding for our work in one of those three cities. If we secure funding for scoping in August 2024 and for the full program, we are on track to implement the first demonstration site in Fall 2024. We expect it to be a two-year program, after which we will replicate and scale it in other locations. What makes the CSCC unique? - Methodology based on pilot-tested and real-world conditions - Developing and deploying a fully coordinated new value chain - Explicit coordination of the public, private, and social sector - Focus on critical mineral recovery to drive the clean energy transition - On-shoring critical mineral supply chains

Turning Waste into Wealth: Join the Circular Supply Chain Coalition (CSCC) in building resilient communities and a healthier planet. At Pyxera Global, weโre proud to be a founding member of the CSCC, which drives local material-recovery systems to create lucrative new supply chains. And we're looking for new members to join us! By rethinking how we handle returned or used products, we can create opportunities that generate profit and foster a more equitable and regenerative future, especially for structurally excluded communities and those disproportionately impacted by waste-related challenges. Why Join the CSCC? * Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Extend product life cycles and promote reuse. * Boost Employment Opportunities: Help develop a skilled workforce ready for the challenges of tomorrow. * Strengthen Supply Chains: Onshore critical minerals and create resilient value chains. By becoming a member of the CSCC, you can play an important role in shaping a regenerative and equitable world. Learn more at circularsupplychain.org. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gifqQJafโWe can establish a supply chain that connects local to global supply chains in a manner that benefits communities,โ says Jennifer Carrigan, Associate Director for Sustainability at Pyxera, to Renewable Matter. โWe trialed a few ideas through a pilot project and have now come to develop the full program. The large-scale implementation of this program will involve small businesses and social enterprises working together within the electronics supply chain through an integration model: some will handle dismantling, others will manage repairs, and some will focus on reuse. We will coordinate them so that they are co-opted together. Subsequently, they will sell the materials to a larger manufacturer, who will pay through a forward procurement mechanism, a modified PPA.โ Thank you also for including the valuable perspectives of Tiffiany Moehring of American Battery Technology Company and Brandon Tidwell of FedEx. #circularity #circulareconomy #circularsupplychains #criticalminerals

** CIRCULARITY 24: ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA THERE WAS CIRCULAR ECONOMY ** After three intense days of work, the 2024 edition of #Circularity ended on Friday, the 24th of May. This year, however, the story of the premier circular economy conference in the #US begins differently. The perfect opening is the fairy-tale phrase "once upon a time." ๐ While this expression is typically used for stories with happy endings, that's not why it was chosen. In the case of #Circularity24, "once upon a time" signifies a turning point, because, at least in intention, the old idea of the #circulareconomy seems to be a thing of the past in the United States. ๐ From the stage in #Chicago, the message comes through loud and clear: from now on, circularity should no longer be just about #plastic, sustainable #packaging, and #reputation. From #criticalrawmaterials and the launch of new coalitions to #textiles, from #soil regeneration to public policies, the current focus is on a different model of the circular economy, one that is more aware of the limits and impacts of the #transition, while also paying attention to #Europe. A model that aims for global #supply chains to evolve and open, transforming into supply #networks. A model where prosperity and communities advance hand in hand. But, above all, a model where #finance embraces its role as a catalyst without hesitation. The reason is soon stated: to sum up the numerous interventions, innovation and pilot projects can emerge anywhere, but #scalability requires #collaboration. ๐ข My reportage from Chicago for Materia Rinnovabile - Renewable Matter is now available here: https://lnkd.in/dm8m6-h4With the voices of: ๐ Nic Esposito, Founder of Circa Systems๐ Jennifer Carrigan, Associate Director for Sustainability at Pyxera Global๐ Tiffiany Moehring, Head of Communications and Marketing at American Battery Technology Company๐ Brandon Tidwell Principal Global Citizenship & Sustainability at FedEx๐ Manuel Carmona Yebra , Deputy Head of Section for Global Issues and Innovation of the European Union delegation to the US ๐ Madelyn Morgan , Conservation Program Coordinator for the City of AustinFeel free to share it and stay tuned for more exciting updates coming straight from the city! Mycocycle, Inc. - We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Circular Supply Chain Coalition (CSCC), a groundbreaking initiative spearheaded by Pyxera Global, alongside several visionary partners. Officially launched last week at #Circularity24, the CSCC aims to revolutionize the U.S. supply chain by "mining" discarded consumer electronics for critical minerals essential for new technology. Why is this important? Electronic goodsโfrom smartphones to wind turbinesโrely heavily on rare earth elements such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt. With global demand for these minerals expected to quadruple by 2040, traditional mining is no longer sustainable. Enter urban mining: tapping into the 8 million tons of e-waste Americans discard each year. Our mission is to create a robust network of local hubs for recycling and upcycling e-waste, generating green jobs in underserved communities. We are actively seeking new partners and members to join us on this transformative journey. Please contact Jennifer Carrigan or John Holm for more information. Key partners in this endeavor currently include FedEx with Brandon Tidwell, Metabolic with Andrew McCue, Sustain Our Future with Yinka N. Bode-George, Circular Consulting with Anita Schwartz, Virginia Commonwealth University Supply Chain Lab with David Berdish, WSP, The First Mile, and the Circular Electronics Partnership. #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #GreenJobs #UrbanMining #Circularity #CircularSupplyChains https://lnkd.in/e-3JzTFJ
