- The City Attorney's Office is getting ready to make the big move to the new City Hall! You can find them on the second floor starting Monday, January 27th. The office will close at its current location on Friday, January 24th at noon. And one more exciting update - the doors on N. 26th St. are now open! This entrance will lead you right to the elevator lobby.
- The Mavity Law Enforcement Memorial has a new home. It proudly stands near the east doors of the new City Hall. "To those officers who gave their lives in service to the Billings community."
- We received an impressive number of candidate applications for the open Ward III council seat, 13 to be exact! All eligible candidates have been invited to participate in a meet and greet on Thursday, January 16th at 7 p.m. in the Billings Public Library's Community Room. This will be an opportunity for candidates to share why they want to serve on the city council. Community members and council members will also have the chance to ask questions and have conversations with the candidates. Thank you to all who applied. Learn more about the open seat here: BillingsMT.gov/WardIII2025
- Happening this week - another move to the new City Hall! Starting Friday, January 10th, you can find Administration, the City Clerk, and Human Resources on the 5th floor at 316 N. 26th St. Those offices will close at noon on Thursday, January 9th for the move. As a reminder, the Building Division and Planning Department have already moved to the new City Hall and are also on the 5th floor. We'll share updates as other departments prepare for the move, but for now, you can still find all other departments at their present location.
- City of Billings Mayor Bill Cole is seeking applications for the Ward III council seat held by Denise Joy, who was selected to serve in the Montana State Legislature. Applications should be submitted before January 13, 2025, although the mayor reserves the right to consider any application regardless of submittal date. Mayor Cole’s recommendation from the field of candidates must be approved by the city council. Candidates must be residents of Ward III and qualified voters of the City of Billings. The appointed person will serve the remainder of Joy’s term, which expires Dec. 31, 2025. To continue serving, the successful appointee must win the election for a four-year term that will be held in November 2025. Ward III generally covers neighborhoods south of the BBWA canal between 19th Street West and 4th Street West, including the area south of Central Avenue between South 24th Street West and Hallowell Lane. Ward boundaries can be seen in better detail on the ward map available on the City website (BillingsMT.gov/ElectionMap). Anyone interested can apply by sending a letter of interest, resume and letters of recommendation, if desired, to Executive Secretary Wynette Maddox via email. Materials can also be mailed to the Mayor’s Office, Billings City Hall, PO Box 1178, Billings MT 59103-1178. (Visit BillingsMT.gov/WardIII2025 for email address) The letter of interest should state the applicant’s qualifications for the position, an explanation of why the applicant would like to be appointed to City Council, the length of the applicant’s residency in Billings and the state of Montana, and whether there are any personal or financial conflicts that could interfere with the applicant’s role as a councilmember. Councilmember Joy began serving residents of Ward III in 2017 and she was elected to her second term in 2021. The City and Mayor Cole would like to thank Councilmember Joy for her commitment to Billings, its residents, and her additional time spent on the City Council’s Legislative and Local Affairs Committee.

- Join us in giving a warm welcome to Billings' newest firefighters! All 11 recruits successfully completed the Billings Fire Department's intensive 14-week academy. They capped off their achievement on Friday with a graduation ceremony surrounded by family and friends. Their first day on the job was Monday and they'll work as probationary firefighters over the next three months. This year’s academy included a recruit from Lockwood Rural Fire District #8, who trained alongside Billings Fire Fighters through a special partnership between the two departments. Let’s give a big round of applause to these brave individuals and thank them for their hard work, determination, and commitment to keeping our community safe! 💪🔥

Cats? Or Griz? Watch their interview Thursday morning on Wake Up Montana as they build up to the big game!
