- Meet Joshua Ellis, an Urban Environmental Coordinator in the Solid Waste Department. He has worked for the City of Tampa for almost 20 years and he enjoys that no two days are the same in his role. He enjoys working on a large variety of projects with a large variety of new people every day. What's one of the coolest days you’ve had on the job? The ribbon cutting of Water Works Park. The park is a great asset to the city with all of the previous environmental issues, most people wouldn’t know that it used to be a trolley car maintenance facility and the grounds had petroleum contamination. We were able to revitalize the spring in the process and create a space for the citizens of Tampa and tourists. What do you like to do in your free time? In my free time, I love to boat and do just about anything on salt water! What’s your favorite restaurant in Tampa? Asian cuisine is my favorite. Saigon Deli is a lunch break favorite. What’s your dream vacation? If I were to go anywhere in the world, it would be French Polynesia by boat. I love the water, the beaches, the remoteness! #TampaJobs #EnvironmentalScience #TampaBay #SolidWaste

The City of Tampa's Stormwater Engineering Division is actively involved in studying and addressing the future impacts of sea level rise on our stormwater systems. In 2019 & 2021, the City of Tampa received grants from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to study and address critical stormwater systems located in areas susceptible to sea level rise. The team chose to study the Davis Islands basin in greater detail to see how we can apply resiliency citywide for other areas that are susceptible to sea level rise. Join us for an online Live Presentation on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 9:00 AM, as we discuss the results and next steps of the Davis Islands Stormwater Analysis.
