Our Camino Nuevo Adult Recovery Center in Orange County is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring the vibrant cultures that shape their California community. This "excelente" team that cares for adults with serious and persistent mental illness hosted a special event for the month-long observance. The celebration included traditional food, music, and clothing, as well as education and open discussion on the barriers to mental health care that Hispanic and Latino populations face. Nearly 1 in 4 Hispanic adults in the U.S. experience mental illness, yet there are many obstacles, such as stigma and language barriers, that make accessing care difficult, leading to only about one-third actually receiving the support they need. That's why our entire team is bicultural and bilingual, providing comprehensive, culturally competent care for all services in both Spanish and English languages. On World Suicide Prevention Day last week, two of our dedicated Counseling & Therapy team members, Chelsey and Cassie, attended the Into the Light Suicide Prevention Awareness Walk & Candlelight Vigil at St. Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania. The event began with a meet and greet, followed by a walk on the university mall to share important information about suicide prevention. The evening concluded with a heartfelt memorial service, which we were honored to be part of. We are grateful to have been a part of this meaningful gathering, standing in support of those affected by suicide and continuing the important conversation around mental health. We are committed to reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to prevent suicides. Today, in observance of #WorldSuicidePreventionDay, Clarvida hosted a virtual Candlelight Vigil for employees to come together to hold space and honor those in their lives who have died by suicide or are struggling with suicidal intensity. This important event also acknowledged our teams' work in caring for clients facing suicidal intensity. Their dedication to each life we support propels them to walk the healing path with others, no matter how difficult it may get. Together, "Changing the Narrative on Suicide" is possible.
