As we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr., we reflect on the importance of philanthropy, activism and social justice work to create real and lasting positive change in our community. Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights leader, Noble Peace Prize winner, orator, and an Anisfield-Wolf Book Award winning author. In his 1959 nonfiction winner, "Stride Toward Freedom," King documented the Montgomery Bus Boycotts and highlighted how nonviolent messaging strengthened the movement. Kimberly Rodríguez Arroyo's Cleveland Foundation Summer Internship with College Now Greater Cleveland solidified her decision to continue pursuing nonprofit work. Her goal is to inspire and leave a lasting impact in communities of diverse backgrounds. The Cleveland Foundation Summer Internship Program is an 11-week paid opportunity to work with nonprofits and public sector organizations in Northeast Ohio. Kimberly shared, "This summer internship program invites self-improvement and a willingness to grow professionally, but most importantly, personally." Otto brings a wealth of experience, most recently as a Development Officer at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, where he managed major donor portfolios and supported significant fundraising efforts. He’s also the co-founder of the Dorian Gray Foundation, which supports LGBTQ+ youth, and has been a key leader in Plexus | LGBT+ and Allied Chamber of Commerce and BBH Pride. -

The Cleveland Foundation Summer Internship and Public Service Fellowship programs provide college students and recent graduates with experiences that benefit their journey towards their nonprofit and public sector careers. Ibukunoluwa Ode-Martins, MSSA, MNO is an alum of both programs and currently a Policy Analyst for the Cleveland City Council, She shares that the mentorship, career experience, and and cohort programming were some of her most impactful experiences during her Summer Internship and Public Service Fellowship. Ibukun was placed with the Cleveland City Council for her Public Service Fellowship, a year of service that provided her with the job training and responsibilities that prepared her for her current full time role with the City Council. Ayanna has an impressive track record as a human resources leader and a deep commitment to centering people, community and equity at the heart of any successful organization. Ayanna shares, "I am a strong believer that passionate and engaged people are the power behind successful organizations, and I could not be more excited to join the mission-driven team at the Cleveland Foundation." She is involved in several community activities in the Greater Cleveland area including mentoring youth in partnership with Cleveland Angels and providing organizational consulting, policy development and youth education for the Inspiring Minds organization.
